Collecting Metal & Teacups

#AtoZChallenge 2021 April Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter C

There is a part of me that is magpie, a maximalist who is drawn to shiny things. Well, to be perfectly accurate, magpies don’t actually collect shiny things. They’ve gotten a bad rap. Their preference is just to pick up interesting objects to examine them – kind of how I shop at Target. I, on the other hand, am what a magpie would be if the stereotypes held true. Today, I’m going to share with you some of my collections.

  1. Metal Objects I’ve Picked Up On the Street
  2. Books
  3. Rocks & Round Things
  4. Liquor That I Don’t Drink
  5. Vintage Door Knobs Used to Make Wine & Liquor Bottle Stoppers
  6. Shoes
  7. Scarves
  8. Watches & Rings
  9. Seaglass & Soaps
  10. Orchids
  11. Paint Brushes & Art Supplies
  12. Art
  13. Broken Hearts
  14. Paper
  15. Teacups & China
  16. Memories

  • Those are terrific things to collect! I save metal things off the street too. I like them best if I have no idea what they are for! I moved to a small house, so had to cut down on the books. Rocks for sure! The house I moved into has rocks, loads of rocks. Some pretty. Vintage door knobs are great, you have some beauties. I’ve been collecting sea glass since I was old enough not to put it in my mouth! Have you ever lived somewhere where every place you dug you came up with marbles? I save those. I assume kids lost them decades ago.
I have are rule of collecting. If I only have two of an item, it’s a coincidence. Once I get three, it’s a collection.

Thank Lisa! I love seeing what fellow collectors have. I always think I’ll do something artistic with the metal I find, but as of yet nothing has happened. I’m in a small condo and we are practically swallowed up with books. Marbles are one of my round objects I have. I love digging them up! What a prize when I find a good one. And yes, three is definitely a collection! I’m so glad you stopped by to read.

Hey, interesting catch on the nostalgic and melancholy. You’ll see that in my post for tomorrow. Lol. It’s a part of my psyche. And yes to the china! I’d be very interested.

  • Books, YES. I have a ridiculous number of books. Some are collector’s items but most are just sitting around waiting to be read.

I considered doing an A-to-Z around the theme of “collections” because of my own ‘magpie’ habit. Perhaps next year I will…

I am swallowed up by books! I keep getting more though I haven’t read 3/4 of what I own. There just isn’t enough time. Sounds like we have a lot in common. Where are you located in the world?
